Whether you've been here since the Kallie & Co. days, found me through Social Retail Marketing, or just stumbled across one of my freebies — welcome. I wanted to share how I ended up here, and more importantly, what's in it for you.
My story means nothing to me if it doesn't help someone else move forward in their business. So let's get into it.
In 2014 I built my first company from my laundry room.
Kallie & Co. was an e-commerce brand selling handmade shoes crafted by artisans in Mexico. Fair trade, slow fashion, fully bootstrapped. I was at that time a Marine Corps wife. My husband had already done four combat deployments between Iraq and Afghanistan, and I needed something that was mine and would survive the moves.
Two months after I launched, my oldest daughter was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. We had just arrived on Long Island, NY on military orders. She ended up in the ICU. No family nearby. No backup plan.
I kept building anyway. Because as a mother, I knew not making my little business work would put me back at a 9-5.
The business grew. Then in 2017 I lost it, and I had to rebuild from scratch through a wholesale program. That pivot is actually what led to everything else. I started selling wholesale, shoe shop owners started asking me how I was running my Facebook Ads, and I started taking on clients. In 2018, Facebook, (now Meta) invited me to join their Small Business Council, and that experience has been life changing.
That's how Social Retail Marketing was born! Not from a business plan, but from being of service to others.
Nearly six years later, it's a multi-7-figure ads agency. And now, there’s something in the works that will compliment the ads agency services.
Three companies
Zero investors
No safety net
What that forces you to learn is that every dollar has to work. You can't guess. You have to know exactly where your customer is in the funnel, what they need to hear at that stage, and what you're actually measuring before you spend a cent.
Which brings me to the tool I want to hand you today.
